Stephen G. "Uncle Grumpy" Bull, 79, Clayton, GA and summer resident of Clayton, NY went to the Lord Friday morning, September 26, 2025, at River Hospital, Alexandria Bay, NY.
Stephen was born in Columbus, OH December 14, 1945, son of Gilman and Barbara Jaeger Ham. He attended schools in Columbus, OH and Ft. Lauderdale, FL and attended college in Florida. He honorably served in the US Navy from January 29, 1963 to January 13, 1967, receiving the National Defense Service Medal.
In 1967 he began his career with the Ft. Lauderdale Police Department, where he developed training for the motorcycle division. Stephen retired from the department in November 1994.
On April 13, 1991 he married Terry Balcom Wright in St. Benedict's Church, Plantation, FL.
He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, Clayton, GA. Stephen was a life member of the Clayton (GA) American Legion Post 220, Harley's Owners Group, and the American Motorcycling Association. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and American Classic Boat Society. He volunteered at the Antique Boat Museum, Clayton, NY, from 1997 to 2022, working as a docent and as "Sheriff", directing security for events. Stephen enjoyed motorcycling for 55 years. He also enjoyed boating, fishing, woodworking, blacksmithing, cookouts with family, NASCAR, and trivia on Wednesdays at O'Brien's
Stephen is survived by his wife, Terry Balcom Wright; daughter, Stephanie Protesto and husband James, Simpsonville, SC; son Joseph Andrew Wright IV and wife Chris, Coconut Creek, FL; five grandchildren, Savannah Brown, J. D., Julia, and Amelia Protesto, and Jade Wyzik; two brothers, Norman Ham, Clayton, GA and Eric Bull and wife Debbie, Winter Haven, FL; sister Carol McCormick, Clayton, GA; step sister Diane Sharp and husband Pete, Lake Placid, FL; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by two sisters.
A gathering of friends and family will take place at St. James Episcopal Church, Clayton, GA at a time and date to be announced. Burial in Grindstone Island Cemetery will occur next summer.
