Roy Gerald Willmert, 81, Depauville passed away Saturday, October 25, 2025, at Samaritan Summit Village where he had resided since January.
Roy was born in Liverpool, England October 10, 1944, son of Gerald Frank and Irene L. (Toop) Willmert. The family moved to the north country and he attended schools in Carthage and Watertown. He was married twice.
On October 4, 1965 he entered the US Navy. He received the Meritorious Unit and Navy Unit Commendations and the National Defense Service, Republic of Vietnam Campaign, and Vietnam Service (3) Medals. He was honorably discharged on the USS Tripoli on September 5, 1969.
Roy retired from the Town of Clayton as a machine operator. He was a former Town of Clayton supervisor and served on the Clayton Town Board. He was a former member of the Depauville Volunteer Fire Dept. - where he was a former fire chief, Abate Motorcycle Club, Adirondack Sportsman's Club, and American Legion Colon Couch Post 821, Clayton. Roy enjoyed hunting - hanging out at his hunting camp in Aldrich and trips to the Southern Tier, fishing, woodworking, motorcycles cooking, and especially his family. He played guitar and keyboard, loving his music.
Roy is survived by his daughter Christine A. (Steven) Adams, Watertown; son Casey A. Willmert, Depauville; three grandchildren, Jessica L. (Talor) Sheldon, Bastian Mott, and Kaizlee Willmert; great granddaughter Jolie L. Sheldon; and sister Tina M. (Kenneth) VanHatten, Alexandria Bay. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by sister Linda S. Willmert.
As per his wishes, there will be no public services. Arrangements are entrusted with Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Clayton and online condolences to his family may be posted at www.cummingsfuneral.com. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to the Salvation Army, 723 State St., Watertown, NY 13601.
