Robert Lashomb, Jr. Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Robert “Rob” V. Lashomb Jr., 73 who peacefully died on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at Hospice of Jefferson County with his beloved wife and son by his side. He passed away following a brief but courageous battle with cancer and was surrounded by his loving family in his final days.

Rob was born on March 30, 1951, in Watertown, NY to Robert V. and Audrey M. (Turcotte) Lashomb. He was a graduate of Clayton High School and received his associate’s degree in occupational studies from Jefferson Community College in 1979.  Rob was a salesman for Town & Country News where he met and fell in love with his forever “sweet one.” On July 18, 1980, he married his beloved wife Jacqueline “Jackie” at Centennial Park in Clayton, New York. They shared nearly 45 years of love, devotion, and cherished memories together.

He lived a remarkable life marked by dedication and service to his country. With 23 years of honorable military service, including deployments to Vietnam and Operation Desert Shield/Storm, he made a lasting impact. Known for his ability to lift spirits, he entertained his comrades with stories of his childhood and marina adventures, always knowing how to boost morale during the toughest times.

Rob was best known for his unwavering dedication to his customers, first as the service manager of Remar Shipyard and later as the proud owner and operator of both Remar Shipyard and Remar Rentals. His deep-rooted love for the St. Lawrence River and Grindstone Island was evident in everything he did, from his work on the water to countless friendships he built along its shores. In his later years, he found immense joy in working with the residents of French Bay Elderly Cottages, where his kindness and warm spirit made a lasting impact on the lives of those he cared for. Rob’s legacy is one of hard work, generosity, and a genuine love for his community, which will be cherished and remembered by all who knew him.

His journey on this earth was marked by his great story telling ability and his unwavering work ethic that was passed down to his children.  Rob found immense joy in nurturing plants, tending to his garden, and most importantly, sharing his love of gardening with his grandchildren. When he wasn’t relaxing in his chair, he found joy in spending time tinkering in his barn. Rob’s barn was his haven, a place where the scent of sawdust lingered in the air and a fine layer of it seemed to settle on everything. It was where he felt most at home, surrounded by stacks of old lumber, well-worn tools, and projects in various stages of completion.

Rob was also known for his signature dark blue suspenders, a small but fitting symbol of his dependable nature. However, no object captures his spirit more than his beloved living room recliner. That well-worn navy blue chair was more than just a seat-it was a place of comfort, a fixture of his home, and a witness to countless moments of joy. From early mornings watching Fox News to indoor snowball fights with his grandchildren, small meals, and shared laughter, the chair became a part of his presence. Now, as we mourn his passing, we find solace not just in our grief, but in the countless cherished memories he leaves behind, forever woven into the fabric of our lives.

Along with his loving wife, Jackie, Robert is survived by his four children, Eric J. (Carrie) Lashomb, Clayton, Renae M. (Jason) Eddy, VA, Marci L. Gondek, Clayton, and Michelle A. (John ) Treadwell, Adams; eleven grandchildren, Nathaniel, Owen, Adam, Elijah, Chase, Lydia, Cameron, Lily, Natalie, Kyler, and Caden; brother Mark D. (Charlotte) Lashomb, Clayton; sister Rebecca A. (John T.) Connolly, Watertown; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his father Robert, January 6, 2024; mother Audrey, February 18, 2025; and sister Trudy M. Lashomb, 1963.

A private service will be held at his family's convenience.
