Murray J. Byrne, 81, passed away at his home in Clayton Saturday morning, September 13, 2025, with his loving family at his side.
Murray was born in Clayton December 8, 1943, son of Robert J. and Lois V. (Spalsbury) Byrne. He was a graduate of Clayton Central School, Buffalo Data Processing, and attended JCC.
On May 12, 1967 he entered the US Army. He served in Seoul, Korea with the 8th Army Headquarters. Murray was honorably discharged on February 23, 1969.
On August 25, 1979 he married Bonnie T. Anderson at the Clayton Baptist Church with Jeff Hedin and Robert Mowatt co-officiating.
He worked for Frink SnoPlow, retiring as Personnel Manager after 28 years of service to the company. Murray then worked for Conboy Law Firm, TI Ready Mix, and Phinney Chevrolet. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Watertown and was a past member and past treasurer for the Clayton Lions Club. Murray volunteered with Disney Marathons, Give KIds the World, and at Alzheimers walks in NY and FL. He enjoyed boating, downhill skiing, and woodworking, having his own craft business with his wife, Painting by Bonnie. He also greatly enjoyed his time with Jeff Bannister Lawn Care. His love for his faithful dogs Emma and Tillie and his meticulous cars, home, and recreational vehicles were definitely noticed by the community. If you were lucky enough to have Murray's friendship as a family member, neighbor, or a friend he considered family...you were truly blessed!!
Along with his wife, Bonnie, Murray is survived by his brother-in-law, Donald F. Sheley, Clayton; two nephews David J. (Cindy) and Douglas (Michele) Sheley; niece-in-law, Debbie Sheley; and several cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Linda Ann Sheley, June 9, 2003, and nephew Donald P. Sheley.
Calling hours will be held at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Clayton on Thursday, September 18, from 5:00 - 7:00 PM. His funeral service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church on Friday, September 19, at 11:00 AM. Online condolences to Murray's family may be posted at www.cummingsfuneral.com.
