Muriel J. McKinley, 90, formerly of Adams Center, passed away Tuesday evening, April 15, 2014 at Samaritan Summit Village, Watertown where she had resided for the last year.
A graveside service will be held in Maplewood Cemetery, Mannsville on a date and time to be announced. There will be no calling hours or funeral service and arrangements are with Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown.
Muriel was born in DeKalb Junction on September 10, 1923, daughter of Mark and Leone Hitchcock Hemenway. The family moved to Mannsville in 1928 and she attended the Cobblestone District Schoolhouse and Mannsville Central School.
On October 14, 1939 she married John W. Broadhurst in Mannsville and he died February 2, 1949. A marriage to Harry Norman ended in divorce. She then married Thomas McKinley April 25, 1970 in Watertown and he died on December 11, 1979.
She worked for three years in the 1950's at Rice's Factory, Adams. She began her career at NY Airbrake, Watertown in 1959 and retired as a clerk typist and stenographer in 1981. Muriel was Methodist. She was an avid sewer and knitter and very much enjoyed mailing gifts to her children and their families. For several years she also wintered in Bradenton, FL.
She is survived by her five children, Merwin J. Broadhurst, Sandy Creek, Neil M. and Jane Broadhurst, Battle Ground, WA, David L. and Bonnie Broadhurst, Adams Center, Janice L. and Raymond Abdella, Elba, and Paul M. Broadhurst, Sandy Creek; twenty-one grandchildren and numerous great and great great grandchildren.
