Michael F. Schnauber, 74, passed away at his home in LaFargeville Friday afternoon, April 26, 2024.
Mike was born in Watertown February 26, 1950, son of Robert V. and Mary E. (McKinley) Schnauber and attended schools in Clayton. A marriage to Christine LaMora ended in divorce.
Mike was raised on the family farm and worked it until 1988. He then worked for his brother James at Schnauber Construction. Mike then started his own business as Big Mike Carpentry and worked with RAMCO Construction renovating and building homes.
He was of the Catholic faith. Mike was a former member and Chief of the Depauville Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed carpentry, woodworking, horseback riding, snowmobiling, and camping.
Along with his companion of 44 years Cindy L. Helmer, he is survived by three children, Mike Schnauber and wife Patty, Rodman, Julie McFall, Marcellus, and Tricia Schnauber, Syracuse; Cindy's son, Jeff Helmer and wife Helen, Clayton; four grandchildren. Benjamin, Macy, Michael C. and Austin; three step grandchildren, Johnna, Dereck, and Jacob; eight step great grandchildren; three siblings, James R. Schnauber and wife Patti Wood and Donald J. Schnauber and companion Babette Hall, all of Clayton and Kathryn A. Dwyer and husband Gary, Cape Vincent; three aunts, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
As per his wishes there will be no calling hours or services.
