Maureen Gough, 91, of Watertown, NY passed away Friday morning, July 26, 2024 at her home.
Maureen was born in Hudson Falls, NY on May 3,1933 to Susan (Pender) and William J. Nevins. She was a graduate of Hudson Falls High School and the State University of Potsdam.
Maureen’s first marriage to Charles B. Woodell ended in divorce. She married Glenn Gough on August 9, 1992. Glenn died in April 2022.
Maureen always enjoyed socializing. She was quick to laugh and offered a warm and beautiful smile. She was engaging and interested in others. Maureen taught fifth grade at South Jefferson School in Adams Center for 23 years. She cared about her students and was an encouraging, positive influence on many of them. Maureen frequently received appreciation and gratitude from her students when she encountered them as adults in our local community.
After retiring Maureen and Glenn traveled extensively. The couple enjoyed getting together with their many friends. They attended shows, played golf and volunteered at a variety of local organizations. Maureen was a docent at the Jefferson County Historical Museum. She was a member of the Samaritan Medical Center Guild and the Sisters of the Precious Blood. She was an enthusiastic Bridge player and an avid reader.
Maureen is survived by her three daughters; Colleen Woodell, Baldwin, NY, Chris and John (S-I-L) Freire, Glens Falls, NY, Andrea Woodell and Pat Paulson (partner), West Linn, OR, her stepson Stephen Gough, Guilderland, NY and five grandchildren, Lauren, Shannon, and Zack Freire and Jake and Kelsey Poska. Along with her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother, William Nevins, and her sister, Nanette Nevins.
A funeral mass will be held at Holy Family Church on Wednesday July 31st at 10:00am. Arrangements are entrusted with Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown and online condolences to her family may be posted at www.cummingsfuneral.com.
