Mary Jane (Dewey) Bertrand

Mary Jane Bertrand, 94, formerly of Evans Mills passed away Friday February 20, 2026, at Samaritan Medical Center. She had resided at Samaritan Summit Village for several years.
  Mary Jane was born in Watertown May 20, 1931, daughter of Edgar P. and Lula J. (Sears) Dewey. She was a graduate of Clayton Central School and received a bachelor's degree from Potsdam State College. On December 28, 1954 she married James J. Bertrand at St. Mary's Church, Clayton with Fr. George Racette officiating. Jim died July 17, 2016.
  Mary Jane was a teacher for 31 1/2 years in Evans Mills for the Indian River School District, retiring July 1, 1986. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, Evans Mills and was a member of the Evans Mills Library Board.
  She is survived by her daughter Sherry B. Wagoner and husband Edward, Peoria, AZ; three grandchildren, Nicole Blair and husband James, Cedar Park, TX, Brandon Wagoner, Peoria, AZ, and Brett Wagoner, and wife Rebecca, Glendale, AZ; 13 great grandchildren, and several nieces,  nephews and cousins.
  Mary Jane's family would like to send a special thank you and their appreciation to Denise and Ray Betterman and to Lisa and Ed Morrow for their loving care and compassion for Mary Jane over the years.
  Calling hours will be held at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown on Friday, April 17, from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM. Her funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church, Evans Mills on Saturday, April 18, at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in Omar Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Mary Jane's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to St. Anne's Shrine, P. O. Box 280, Isle La Motte, VT 05463.
