Mary G. Walsh, 98, Watertown and formerly of LaFargeville, passed away Wednesday morning, July 16, 2025, at Samaritan Medical Center.
Mary was born in Brooklyn July 22, 1926, daughter of Thomas A. and Josephine (Ford) Gorman and she was a 1945 graduate of Girls Commercial High School in Brooklyn.
After high school she was a long distance operator for AT & T during the latter years of WWII, then was a secretary for several businesses in NYC - Benton & Bowles Advertising Agency, DuMont Television, and US Court of Appeals.
Mary then married Joseph J. Walsh on October 12, 1956 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Brooklyn. Mr. Walsh, from Troop E, Mounted Division of the NYC Police Dept, died March 16, 1988.
The couple moved to the north country. Mary was a former communicant of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church and taught 1st grade CCD classes. She was a former secretary for the Hilltop Towers Tenant Association. She had enjoyed traveling, genealogy searching, and reading.
She is survived by her five children, M. Patricia Walsh Cohen and husband Richard, Dexter, Laurie A. Walsh, Watertown, Joseph B. Walsh, Watertown, Thomas M. Walsh, Orange County, NY, and Susan E. Walsh Dummitt and husband David, Watertown; nine grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren; sister Margaret Gorman Carter and husband John, NJ; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Along with her parents and husband, Mary was predeceased by her daughter Kathleen Walsh LaMarche, 1990; brother Thomas A. Gorman; and sister Eileen Gorman Sauve.
Burial in North Watertown Cemetery will be at her family's convenience. Arrangements are entrusted with Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown and online condolences to her family may be posted at www.cummingsfuneral.com. In lieu of flowers donations in Mary's name may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Walker Center for Cancer Care, 830 Washington St., Watertown, NY 13601.
