Marion E. Kirkland, 92, of N. Colorado Ave., Watertown passed away on January 16, 2025 at Sunset Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Boonville.
Born on October 20, 1932 in Watertown, daughter of William and Catherine (Seery) Barrisford, she graduated from Watertown High School in 1952. Marion married Edward J. Kirkland on August 29, 1953 at St. Patricks' Church with Rev. William H. Coffey officiating. They observed their 65th wedding anniversary in 2018. Mr. Kirkland passed away on March 3, 2019.
She was employed at WCNY-TV on Champion Hill, Carthage before moving offices to the Hotel Woodruff in Watertown, where she was a copywriter for both WWNY-TV and WWNY Radio. In 1977 (the Blizzard of '77) Marion went to work for the NYS Department of Labor in the Dulles State Office Building, then transferred to the Department of Environmental Conservation, retiring as the Secretary for Real Property Services in 1993.
She was a member of the American Legion Post 61 Ladies Auxiliary, Credo Foundation, Jefferson County Historical Society, and the Celebration Singers at Holy Family Church.
Marion is survived by her brother Milton D. Barrisford, Elizabethton, TN and several nieces and nephews. Two brothers and one sister predeceased her.
Her funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 22, at 10:00 AM at Holy Family Church. Burial in Brookside Cemetery will take place on Tuesday, April 22, at 1:00 PM. Arrangements are entrusted with Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown and online condolences to Marion's family may be posted at www.cummingsfuneral.com.
