Margaret Wright Allen, a loving wife, mother, cherished grandmother and great-grandmother, and a devoted servant of God, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2025, at the age of ninety-four. Her life was a radiant testament to faith, love, and devotion, touching countless lives with her warmth, wisdom, and kindness.
Born on November 16, 1930, in Killyleagh, County Down, Northern Ireland, Margaret was the fifth of ten children born to Ellen and Thomas (Tommy) Calvert. She grew up in the picturesque coastal village of Killyleagh, nestled along the shores of Strangford Lough. She was a graduate of Killyleagh High School and received her nursing degree from Belfast City Hospital in 1950. It was during her training as a Registered Nurse in Belfast that she met her husband, Dawson Allen. After marrying on December 5, 1951, they embarked on a journey, immigrating to Canada and then to the United States in 1964, with children in tow, building a life rooted in family and faith. The move was the first of many, as Margaret and her family lived in various places across the United States; she embraced each move with trust in God's plan, eventually settling in the North Country, where she put down long-lasting roots.
She is survived by her loving family, sons Paul and wife Laurel (Odenton, MD), Peter and wife Debbie (Clayton, NY), David and wife Kim (Perkin, IL), and daughter Michele and John O'Brien (Highlands, NJ); her brothers John and Archie Calvert (Northern Ireland), twelve cherished grandchildren; and twenty-four adored great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her "wee" dog, and loyal companion, Whisper. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Dawson Allen, and seven of her nine siblings.
Though she is no longer with us, her light continues to shine through the lives she touched as a nurse, mother, wife, and Christian. Even in her final days, she captured the hearts of her caregivers, who were drawn to her warmth and kindness. They often visited to share stories of their time with her, recounting how her encouragement, humor, and faith touched their lives, turning routine care into moments of connection. "Well done, good and faithful servant" (Matthew 25:23).
