Luke B. Mallan, Jr., 96, of Watertown passed away Saturday evening, December 28, 2024, at Samaritan Medical Center.
Luke was born in Watertown March 20, 1928, son of Luke B. and Anna (McCormick) Mallan, Sr. and he was a graduate of Immaculate Heart Academy. He enlisted in the US Navy, serving in Korea and aboard the USS Wisconsin. Three years ago he visited the USS Wisconsin with his daughter and grandson and was the oldest Veteran to return to the ship.
On April 26, 1957 he married Lorraine A. Baker at St. Mary's Cathedral, Ogdensburg.
He was a truck driver and deliverer for Seaway Motor Express, Watertown. Luke was a communicant of Holy Family Church, a devout Catholic, and enjoyed saying daily rosary with his wife. He was called the Patriarch of Michigan Ave., as he enjoyed sitting on his front porch with his dogs Jake and Zeke, calling out to all who passed. His favorite thing to do was spending time with his children and their families, traveling to see them all.
Along with his wife, Lorraine, Luke is survived by his five children, Kathleen A. (Paul) Sabel, Watertown, Colleen M. Mentry, Watertown, James T. (Laura) Mallan, Adams, Maureen C. (Patrick) Lafferty, Greenwich Village, CT, and Frances R. (Chris) Sausville, Ballston Lake; 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; sister Patricia Penhallow, Richmond, VA; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by a daughter in infancy, Mary Christine Mallan.
Luke's funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 4, at Holy Family Church at 11:00 AM followed by burial in Glenwood Cemetery.
