Loretta (Rizzo) "Ma Lanz" Lanzione, 92, Clayton, NY and Summit Village, Watertown, NY was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 16. Loretta was born August 8, 1933, at her home on Campbell Street in Rochester, NY to Luciano and Francesca (Cassata) Rizzo. She was the youngest of five children.
Loretta graduated from Madison High School in 1951 and went on to SUNY Geneseo for one year to study math. Loretta met Nicolo (Nick) Lanzione while working at Rochester Iron and Metal and they were married in Alabama, NY on March 22, 1954. Together, they operated Lanz’s Motel for 32 years.
After Nick’s death in 1986, she remained involved in the business into her retirement. She later returned to college and graduated from Jefferson Community College 2001 with an AS in Accounting.
Loretta was very active in her church, especially in retirement. She served for several years as a 7 th grade religious education teacher. She was a commissioned lay minister and served on the board of Commissioned Lay Ministers. She was a lector and a eucharistic minister, delivering the eucharist to residents, hospital patients, and inmates. She was a member of the St Anne’s Society, a lay minister of the Sisters of St Joseph and a tribunal advocate.
Loretta enjoyed crocheting, travel, scrabble, a good card game and most importantly cooking. She welcomed family and friends where the table was never too small for all to enjoy a good Italian feast.
Loretta is survived by her children Michelena A (John) Hennessey, Giovanni M (Trudy) Lanzione, Frances (David) Ivey and Lucianne LaPierre (Jimmy); eleven grandchildren, Michael (Kerry) Hennessey, Kelly (Christopher) Himmelheber, David James Ivey (Paige), Marla Mendoza, Nicole (Brad) Berry, Bobbi Jo Longo, Nicholas Ivey (Olivia), Michelle Steward, Isabella (Brett) Anander, Mia Lanzione and Ave Lanzione; and seventeen great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the staff at Summit Nursing Home, where Loretta was a resident since January 2020, for their wonderful care, especially in these last weeks.
