Kathleen A. Burns, 69, Watertown, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family Sunday, March 16, 2025, at Samaritan Medical Center.
Kathleen was born in Watertown, daughter of Karl R. and Rosemary (Lawrence) Burns. She attended St. Patrick's School and graduated from Immaculate Heart Central School. She attended JCC and received her B. A. in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Syracuse University and her M. A. in Literacy from SUNY Potsdam. A marriage to Edward J. Amelio ended in 2005.
Kathleen was a communicant of Holy Family Church. She worked at Howland's Department Store, AAA, Benchmark Family Services, Inc., JRC, and BOCES. But her favorite career was stay at home mom. She enjoyed crafting, reading, gardening, sewing, and especially spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was wickedly funny and loved chocolate and Pepsi.
Kathleen is survived by her mother, Rosemary L. Burns, Watertown; four children, Amber A. (Richard) DeSimony, Glenville; Andrea A. (Dillon) Kelly, Lowville; Edward K. (Sarah) Amelio, Croghan; and Diane A. (Matthew) Call, Sackets Harbor. She is also the proud grandmother to ten grandchildren who brought light and joy to her days: Fiona and Nico DeSimony; Quinn and Redmond Kelly; Brennan, Alexander and Alyssa Amelio, and Celia, Norah, and Vera Call; sister Nancy L. (Thomas) Blake, Pillar Point; sister-in-law Mary Ann Burns, VT; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Kathleen was predeceased by her father Karl R. Burns, 2001 and two brothers, James D. Burns, 2007 and John P. Burns, 2022.
Calling hours will be held at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown on Thursday, March 20, from 5 - 7 PM. Her funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, March 21, at Holy Family Church at 10 AM followed by burial in Glenwood Cemetery.
