June Richie, 84, of S. Meadow St., Watertown passed away Saturday morning, November 15, 2014, at Samaritan Medical Center.
Calling Hours will be held at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown on Wednesday, November 19, from 4 - 7PM. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Church on Thursday, November 20, at 10AM with Rev. Donald Robinson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at the family's convenience at Glenwood Cemetery.
June was born in Watertown on February 26, 1930, the daughter of William Wesley and Mina White Quackenbush. She graduated from Watertown High School in 1947 and had attended JCC. On November 24, 1951 she married B. Michael Richie at Holy Family Church with Rev. Roger Martin presiding. Mr. Richie, an account executive with the Watertown Daily Times for 34 years, died June 6, 2000.
She worked for Watertown National, Watertown Savings, and Marine Midland Banks in the ledger and bookkeeping departments and for Prudential and Gaffney Real Estate Companies. June was a bookkeeper and office worker for Doug-Long Inc. and while working for them, she also, with her husband Michael, owned the Gunn's Corners Motel for ten years. She was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church. Her greatest enjoyment was her family, along with laughter, music, theater, and athletics, and she was a member of the Ridgeway Clan.
June is survived by her three daughters, Michelle R. "Mitzie" Sullivan, Clayton, and Nanette M. Belcher and Karen A. Vest Burdick and companion, Richard W. Hanus, all of Dexter; six grandchildren, William M. "Billy" Vest, Kellie L. and Michael J. Belcher, Christina LaJoie-Uscio and husband, Stanley, Tessa R. Sullivan, and Ian J. Beckstead and seven great grandchildren; sister, Vivian M. Holman, Watertown; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides her husband, Mike, she was predeceased by her two sons-in-law, Gary W. Belcher, August 21, 2014 and William A. Vest, March 18, 1985.
