John R. Rae, 92, passed away at his home in Watertown Monday, January 27, 2025.
John was born in Kennett Square, PA July 12, 1932, son of James M. and Anna Mary (Walker) Rae and he graduated from Kennett Consolidated School in 1950.
He entered the US Army on January 22, 1952. He served in Korea and received several medals, including the Korean Service Medal with 1 Bronze Star, National Defense Service Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal. He also received his Parachutist and Combat Infantry Badges, and was a Certified Jump Master. John was honorably discharged as a Sergeant on September 6, 1957.
On January 18, 1958 he married Lillian Oddi at St. Anthony's Church with Msgr. Anthony Milia officiating.
John retired as a sales representative for Nabisco in Syracuse. Even though he was Presbyterian, he attended Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church with his wife. He was a life member of American Legion Post 61, VFW Post 1400, Korean War Veterans Association #113, and Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of Elks Lodge 496 and was a former Vice President of the Athletic Association at Immaculate Heart Central School. John enjoyed watching sports and was an avid Penn State fan. After the couple's retirement, he and Lillian enjoyed traveling in their car.
Along with his wife, Lillian, John is survived by his three children, Stephen J. Rae and John J. (Robin) Rae, all of Watertown and Victoria A. Delamater, Greenville, TX; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his grandson, Justin Delamater and three siblings, James Rae, Helen Elizabeth Ridge, and Ethel Gregg.
Calling hours will be held Monday, February 3, at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown from 9:30 - 11:30 AM followed by a funeral service at Noon. His graveside service will be held on Monday, May 5, at 10:00 AM at Glenwood Cemetery, with military honors. Online condolences to John's family may be posted at www.cummingsfuneral.com.
