John R. McCracken

    John R. McCracken, 68, of Watertown passed away Saturday evening, July 6, 2024, at Carthage Center where he had resided for three years.

   John was born in Watertown September 5, 1955, son of Carl E. McCracken, Sr. and Marion G. Johnson McCracken and he attended Watertown schools. A marriage to Kay Delaney ended in divorce.

   He drove forklifts and trucks for NY Airbrake until his retirement in 1984. He enjoyed "puttering", especially on his tractors. John was extremely fond of his two grandchildren.

   He is survived by his son and his wife, John R. (Frances) McCracken II, Watertown; two grandchildren, Dawson Dawes and Dakota McCracken; two brothers, Carl E. McCracken, Jr. and Robert I. McCracken, both of Watertown; sister, Ada M. Bartlett, Dexter; four nieces and nephews, Amanda L., Sarah M., and Matthew C. McCracken and Nathan C. Bartlett; and great nephew, Ashton Robert Bartlett. John was predeceased by his father, April 25, 2003; mother March 24, 1999; sister-in-law Nancy E. McCracken, May 24, 2020; and brother-in-law Dana L. Bartlett, January 13, 2013.

   A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 16, at 11:00 am at Brookside Cemetery. There are no calling hours or funeral service. Arrangements are entrusted with Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown and online condolences to John's family may be posted at www.cummingsfuneral.com.
