John E. Hazlewood Obituary

John E. Hazlewood, 77, LaFargeville, passed away July 9, 2026 at River Hospital, Alexandria Bay.

John was born in Watertown, NY April 17, 1949, son of Perry J. and Florence E. (Patterson) Hazlewood. He was a graduate of Cape Vincent High School and BOCES.

Upon graduation John enlisted in the US Navy after school. He served tours in Vietnam, where he risked his life for his fellow shipman and in the Philippines, where he enjoyed grabbing his toolbox and helping the natives fix up their villages. He worked mainly in engineering, specializing in generator installation and maintenance. He achieved the rank of Command Master Chief before being honorably discharged after 22 years of service. And his loyalty to his country never wavered, as he said he would serve if his country needed him again.

After his discharge, John opened Power Source Generator Company in Depauville on June 23, 1999. He continued to successfully operate Power Source for 26 years until his passing.

John was a man of many talents. During his lifetime he was a talented musician playing the guitar and piano. He was an avid scuba diver and a licensed airplane pilot. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and hiking in the Adirondacks. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with family and friends when his busy work schedule allowed.

John is survived by his wife, Guangxia "Xia" Hazlewood, Clayton; brother, James "J. P." (Shelley) Hazlewood, Three Mile Bay; three sisters, Jean E. Golden, Cape Vincent, Elizabeth A. (Fred) Touron, Syracuse, and Wanda Hermann, Florida; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his 2 sisters, Margaret Swart and Carole DeLisle, and 2 brothers-in-law, Morris Golden and Paul Hermann.
