John Leonard Giltz Jr., formally of Chaumont, N.Y., passed away on Monday, December 31, 2018, in North Carolina. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Information made available by Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Clayton, N.Y.
He was born on January 26th, 1946 in Syracuse, N.Y., a son of the late John Leonard Giltz and Eva Mary Giltz. John faithfully served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. After his service, he began a career as a tractor trailer driver, later as a police officer with the Clayton N.Y. Police Department. He was a member of the Chaumont Masonic Lodge #172 and Eastern Star #225 where he was Patron and also a Jefferson County District Grand Lecturer, 1989.
John is survived by his wife Helen A. Giltz of the home; sons Col. John R. Giltz and his wife Gloria of Jacksonville, N.C. and John L. Giltz III and wife Crystal of Lexington, S.C., seven grandchildren; sisters Susan, Eva, Martha and Mary, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother Richard.
