John E. Flynn, Jr. Obituary

    John E. Flynn, Jr., 76, Penn Yan and formerly of Clayton died July 16, 2026 in Clifton Springs.


   John was born in Rochester October 24, 1949, son of John E. Sr. and Nina (Higgins) Flynn. After graduating from Clayton High School, he entered the US Air Force on July 5, 1968. He served in Vietnam and Thailand, and received several medals including the Vietnam Service and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medals. John was honorably discharged on July 3, 1972.


   On June 23, 2018 he married Lucinda J. "Cindy" Wright on the River in Clayton.


   For 34 years he was a mail carrier for the US Postal Service. John was a member of Colon-Couch American Legion Post 821, VFW Post 1400, and Eagles Aerie 782. He was a past Commander of both Post 821 and Jefferson County. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed model trains.


   Along with his wife, Cindy, John is survived by his daughter, Katie (Dustin) Rouse, Watertown; stepson, Robert Egli, Daytona, FL; niece, Nina Walker, Williamsburg, KY; and several cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother and sister-in-law, Gerald F. (Margie) Flynn.


   A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 15, at 10:00 am at St. Mary's Cemetery with military honors. Arrangements are entrusted with Cummings Funeral Service, Inc, Clayton and online condolences to John's family may be posted at www.cummingsfuneral.com.
