Jean Doud Dowe, 92, passed away Sunday April 19, 2026, in Green Valley, AZ. She was a long-time resident of Watertown, NY.
Jean was born September 6, 1933, in Louisville, NY, daughter of Dennis M. and Maefred (Fregoe) Doud and she was a 1951 graduate of Madrid High School. On October 17, 1953, she married Neville A. Dowe at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Louisville with Msgr. Wilfred Nugent officiating. Neville passed on August 29, 2009.
She was much appreciated as mother to their six children and treasured her times with her grandchildren and great-grand children. Jean was a former communicant of Holy Family Church. She was a member of IHC Athletic Assoc. for over 25 years. She was also a member of both Holy Family and IHC Home and School Associations. She enjoyed working on various and numerous charitable fundraising campaigns, bingo, and traveling. In her later years, she especially enjoyed the company of her large family and friends.
Jean is survived by her four sons, Kevin A. (Debra) Dowe, Calcium, Timothy M. (Cathie) Dowe, The Villages, FL, Peter N. (Linda) Dowe, Brockport, and Patrick D. (Laurie) Dowe, Loudon, TN; two daughters, Rosemary D. (Paul) Higgins, Naples, FL and Cynthia E. (Robert) Van Hoesen, Niskayuna; sixteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren; brother, Ray (Myrna) Doud, Colton; one sister, Virginia Schoonmaker, Rome; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Along with her parents and husband, Jean was predeceased by three brothers, Robert Doud, August 28, 2001, Roland Doud, 1933, and James Doud, 1924; four sisters, Mary Tyo, February 7, 1999, Patricia Roberts, March 20, 2005, Kathleen Beaulieu, April 1980, Eunice Wagner, March 29. 2013; and one grandchild, William N. Dowe, May 16, 2025.
The family is especially grateful to the staff of Silver Springs Senior Living Community. The family is also appreciative of the care providers from Bristol Hospice.
Calling hours will be held at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown on Friday, June 5, from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, June 6, at 11:00 am at St. Anthony's Church followed by burial in Glenwood Cemetery.
