Janice M. Major, 81, Rochester and formerly of Watertown, passed away January 24, 2015 at Unity Hospital, Rochester with her daughters at her side.
A Funeral Mass will be held in May at Holy Family Church at a date and time to be announced and burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery. There will be no calling hours and Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown is entrusted with her arrangements.
Janice was born in Watertown on January 17, 1934, the daughter of Charles N. and Ruth M. Stevens Fitzpatrick. She graduated from Immaculate Heart Academy and had attended the Watertown School of Commerce. She retired from the Watertown City School District as a school secretary.
When living in Watertown she attended Holy Family Church, was a life member of the PTA, and a former member of the American Legion Post 61 Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed flower arranging and crafting wreaths, camping, nature, and visiting the ocean when she lived in South Carolina.
Mrs. Major is survived by her two daughters, Kyra Scholl, Rochester and Kristi Jones, Watertown; seven grandchildren, Thomas, Brandon, Justin, Hunter, Tanner, Noah, and Schuyler; one great grandchild, Kensington; brother, Michael and Loretta Fitzpatrick, Amherst; two sisters, Mary Carrelra, Black River and Debbie and Marc Cross, Greenville, SC; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her husband, Charles Major, died before her. She was also predeceased by her son, Thomas Scholl, Jr., four brothers, Owen, Peter, Richard, and Charles Fitzpatrick, Jr., and her sister, Sharon Rowland.
