Jan Terese Mosher, age 73, of Lake Bonaparte, NY, passed away Thursday, January 16, 2025, surrounded by her family after a short, sudden battle with cancer. Jan was born on June 22, 1951, in Watertown, NY, the daughter of the late John “Jack” and Dorothy “Dot” Keegan. She married Albert “Alby” Oscar Mosher on January 5, 1980, in their home, the Elba Lodge, on Lake Bonaparte in Harrisville, NY.
Jan was the proudest mother and grandmother you could ever meet, and will be remembered for her selfless willingness to do anything for her kids, any time they called or needed her support. It brought her such happiness over the years to have all her kids (and then eventually their kids too) up at the lake, where she helped coordinate large meals, maintained a full supply of “red juice” and pancake mix for the grandkids, and hosted countless events for everyone to enjoy the water. She loved to watch her grandkids’ games, always watching someone play soccer or lacrosse, live or even on her iPad from her kitchen if the snow kept her home. She kept up special traditions including making custom Christmas stockings for all her grandkids and picking them out a unique ornament year after year for their own trees. Over her last days, many people came to say their goodbyes and it was amazing how many of them shared their stories of a time where she believed in them, gave them a chance, supported them, and above all, treated them like family. She opened her doors so many times over the years to those in need.
Jan also served her community endlessly, donating hundreds of hours of her time every year to causes and organizations she believed in and was passionate about. She was the President of the Harrisville Central School Board, serving as a member of the board for over 30 years. She also held leadership positions and offered her time to Planned Parenthood, Hospice, United Way, and Noon Rotary. In her free time, she was a beloved member of a Book Club with her friends, and enjoyed laughs around bonfires and through girls trips away.
She was a part of the Watertown High School Class of 1969, and graduated from the State University of New York at Potsdam class of 1973, where she was a proud member of the Omega Delta Phi sorority.
Survivors include her children: Dr. Tara Alissa Mosher Baird, her husband Adam Michael Baird, and their daughter Kaia, of Sackets Harbor, NY; Ashley Brooke Buckley, her husband Timothy Lockwood Buckley, and their children, Teagan, Luke, and Piper, of Watertown, NY; Drew Jason Mosher, his wife Anna Marie Mancuso, and their son Otto, of Pittsburgh, PA; and Scott Ryan Mosher, his wife Kristin Olson Mosher, and their children, Luka, Maddie, and Poppy, of Arlington, VA. She is also survived by two of her siblings: Kim Howard, of Watertown, NY, and Karen Keegan, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert “Alby” Oscar Mosher, and her sister, Sandi Meyer.
Calling hours will be held at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown on Monday, January 20, from 4 - 7 PM. Online condolences to her family may be posted at www.cummingsfuneral.com. In lieu of flowers, Jan's family wishes donations in her name to your local United Way, Rotary Club, Hospice, or a charity of your choice.
