James M. Lawlor, 78, passed away peacefully at his home in Watertown Monday morning, September 23, 2024.
James was born in Naas, County Kildare, Ireland on April 10, 1946, son of James M. and Vi (Gueret) Lawlor. He attended Rockwell College, Cashel, County Tipperary.
After immigrating to the United States, he entered the US Army. James served in Vietnam as light infantry, an E2 Chaplain's Assistant, and in the Military Police. He received the Republic of Vietnam Campaign and Vietnam Service Medals. He also received the National Defense Service Medal w/ Bronze Star, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Combat Infantryman Badge, Army Commendation Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon; Expert Badge (Rifle), Meritorious Service Medal, and 7 awards of the Good Conduct Medal. He retired from active duty Military as Sergeant First Class on August 31, 1992. Along with his service to his country, James worked for the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and as an accountant on Ft. Drum as an E7 Government Service employee.
On September 19, 1975 James married Claudia Jean Burns at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church with Fr. Benoit C. Dostie officiating. Claudia died May 30, 2017.
He had been a communicant of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church. He was a member of VFW Post 1400 and a former member of Elks Lodge 496. James was an avid golfer, a Yankees fan and most importantly an incredible friend, brother, son, father, grandfather and husband.
He is survived by his two sons and their wives, James Mary Lawlor III, his wife Christine and their son Logan in Garner, NC. Kevin Michael Lawlor, his wife Carrie and their children, Seamas and Killian Lawlor and Melody Webster; two sisters, Michelle and Marie; three brothers, Thomas, Paul, and Mark; brother-in-law Richard Burns, Holt, FL; sister-in-law Colleen Burns, Virginia Beach, VA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Along with his parents, James was predeceased by his brother Peter.
A funeral service will be held at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc. on Saturday, October 26, at 10 AM with Fr. Frank Natale, MSC presiding.
