Helen G. (Gartland) Chisholm

   Helen G. Chisholm, 102, Watertown passed away Monday morning, July 28, 2025, at Hospice of Jefferson County with her family at her side.

   Helen was born in Theresa March 14, 1923, daughter of Clarence J. and Lena (Schell) Gartland. She graduated from Evans Mills High School and received her B. A. in Education from Potsdam State. On April 10, 1950 she married Harold J. Chisholm at St. Mary's Church, Evans Mills with Rev. J. Karlton Dewey officiating. Mr. Chisholm died October 15, 1984.

   She was an elementary teacher in Evans Mills and Copenhagen for 5 years and retired from the Watertown City School District in 1978 after teaching there for 25 years. Helen was a communicant of Holy Family Church and had been in the choir. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Teaching Sorority and NYS Retired Teachers Assoc. She was also a former member of the Jefferson County and 4 Rivers Historical Societies and AARP. She enjoyed playing bridge, reading, and volunteering for the Office for the Aging.

   Helen is survived by her daughter Ellen M. Moran, Sackets Harbor; two grandchildren, Ryan (Courtney) Moran and Eric (Stephanie) Moran; one niece and one nephew; and numerous cousins. Along with her parents and husband, she was predeceased by son-in-law, Timothy Reed, March 15, 2021, and brother Roger J. Gartland, November 19, 2001.

   A calling hour will be held at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown on Friday, August 1, from 11 AM - Noon. A prayer service at 12:15 PM will follow the calling hour at the funeral home. Helen's funeral mass will then be celebrated at 1 PM at Holy Family Church followed by burial in Glenwood Cemetery. Online condolences to her family may be posted at www.cummingsfuneral.com.
