Harold L. Wiley, 95, passed away at his home in Cape Vincent Saturday morning, May 11, 2024.
Harold was born in Cape Vincent January 9, 1929, son of Leonard and Emily (Blum) Wiley. He was a graduate of Cape Vincent High School and attended Rochester Business Institute. He served in Korea with the US Army. On August 12, 1950 he married Doris M. Cornell in St. Vincent of Paul Church, Cape Vincent.
Harold was a banker at Citizen Bank, Cape Vincent while farming in Cape Vincent. With his brother, James, he was co-owner of the Red & White Grocery Store, then for 26 years he was an insurance agent with R. G. Relph Insurance, both in Cape Vincent.
He was a communicant of St. Vincent of Paul Church and a 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus. Harold was a charter member of the Cape Vincent Lions Club, a founding member of the French Festival, a member of the American Legion John C. Londraville Post 832, and the 1st President of the Thousand Islands Booster Club. He was a 30 year member of the Thousand Islands School Board, 28 years serving on the Cape Vincent Town Board, and was also a town councilman. On October 1, 2016 he and his brothers James and Philip were members of Honor Flight Mission 7 to Washington DC. Harold enjoyed gardening and attending all the sporting events of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Along with his wife of 73 years, Doris, Harold is survived by his 3 sons and their wives, Michael P. and Lori A., Clayton, John M. and Debra A., Cape Vincent, and Daniel A. and Karen S., Cape Vincent; daughter Mary Anne Townsend, Syracuse; 16 grandchildren and 38, with one on the way, great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his son Patrick; daughter-in-law Vickie Wiley; grandson Greg Wiley; 5 brothers, James, Charles, Fr. John, Donald, and Philip; and 2 sisters, Sr. Mary Louise Wiley and Anna Sullivan.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 16, at St. Vincent of Paul Church, Cape Vincent from 4 - 7 PM. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 17, at the church at 11 AM followed by burial with military honors in St. Vincent of Paul Cemetery, Cape Vincent.
