Geraldine K. "Gerry" Carpenter, 81, passed away Sunday morning, August 3, 2025, at her home in Clayton, surrounded by her daughters, aka "her babies".
Gerry was born in Alex Bay, June 20, 1944, daughter of Leeland and Helen (Balmont) Casler and she graduated from Clayton High School. On August 4, 1962 she married William N. Carpenter at St. Mary's Church with Msgr. James Lynch officiating. Bill died on March 6, 2003.
She had worked for numerous local restaurants as a server, cook and hostess, and in sales for Combined Life Insurance Co. She then was a bookkeeper for Gail Thompson Accounting and was a cafeteria lunch monitor at Guardino Elementary School. Her main joy was being a homemaker and raising her three girls.
Gerry was a communicant of St. Mary's Church and was very active in church activities and in her community. She was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 350 Ladies Auxiliary and volunteered at the food pantry and When she was younger, she was active in girl scouts and 4-H, earning serval awards. She was an avid reader, reading every book at the Hawn Memorial Library. Gerry enjoyed quilting, sewing and alterations, cooking and making soups, traveling and road trips with her daughters, and dining out. Time spent listening to the sounds of her grandchildren and great grandchildren at her house were very dear to her.
Gerry is survived by her three daughters, Charlene J. (Christopher) Vary, Webster, NH, Christine M. (W. John) Woodley, Clayton, and Cynthia A. (David) Sheley, Clayton; six grandchildren, Nathan (Courtenay) Sheley, Stephanie Vary, Mike (Amy) Woodley, Samantha Vary, Hannah Woodley and companion Dave Jackson, and Claire (Kyle) Delaney; four great grandchildren, Iris, Madison, Britton, and Iyla; sister JIll (Bobby) Shultz, Clayton; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Along with her parents and husband, Gerry was predeceased by her sister Connie Bazinet Campus.
Calling hours will be held at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Clayton on Wednesday, August 6, from 4 - 6 PM. Her funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church on Thursday, August 7, at 10 AM followed by burial in St. Mary's Cemetery.
