George Albert Hinerth, 90, of Clayton, New York, Boynton Beach and Melbourne, Florida passed away peacefully on November 14, 2024 at The Blake Assisted Living Facility in Melbourne, Florida.
George was born on May 14, 1934 in Spencer Massachusetts to Joseph and Mary (Babbie) Hinerth. He was a graduate of St Mary’s Academy, Champlain, NY in 1952. He also received a Bachelor’s degree in Business from Saint Michael's College in 1961 in Winooski, Vermont.
George married Nancy Lee Wing on August 26, 1961 in Island Pond, Vermont and the newlyweds moved to Chateaugay, NY. In 1968 they settled down in Clayton, New York to raise their family.
George enlisted in the United States Air Force USAF and served as an Air Traffic Control Instructor from 1954 -1958. He worked at the Malone Dairy in Malone, NY and retired from Crowley Foods in Lafargeville, NY as the plant Office Manager.
George was a member of the Thousand Islands Knights Of Columbus Council 350 and the Bishop Conroy Fourth Degree Assembly. He served as the New York State Council State Secretary and State Warden. He served the local council for many years as Grand knight and Financial Secretary and chaired many committees. He led the local Pennies from Heaven program raising thousands of dollars assisting Seminarians with their education costs. He was a Church Trustee for the St Mary’s Parish in Clayton. George and Nancy enjoyed traveling to numerous Knights of Columbus functions throughout the country.
George enjoyed sports and public speaking. His fondest memories were the train trips to watch the Montreal Canadiens, coaching the St Mary’s youth basketball with Obie O'brien and coaching youth baseball with Jerry Wetterhan. He spent summer evenings in Clayton umpiring baseball and tending to his tomatoes. He enjoyed vacationing with family, especially summers spent at York Beach, Maine and visiting children stationed in Europe. Later, George and Nancy were active in their Florida communities as President and Treasurer of Lantana Cascade and Royal Manor Home Owners Association.
George is survived by his three children, Brian (Joanne Thomas) Hinerth, Melbourne, Florida; Sheri Hinerth (Joseph Fatcheric), Elbridge, New York, and Donna Bundy (Steve Morgan), Christchurch, New Zealand; his grandchildren, Sean (Lauren), Michael (Dawn), Lisa and Kali and four great grandchildren, Albert, Reagan, Lorelei and Torin. George is predeceased by his parents and wife Nancy.
A mass to honor and celebrate George will be held on Monday December 9, 2024 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Clayton, New York. Calling hours will be held at St Mary’s Church 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to mass. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
