Former Clayton resident, Gary C Reimann age 74, died January 18, 2014 surrounded by his family at his home in Punta Gorda, Florida.
Gary was born August 3rd, 1939 in Knoxville, PA to Carleton and Louise Hyland Reimann. He grew up in Greenwood, NY and graduated from Greenwood High School in 1957.
He married Patricia A. Houser February 1960 in Rochester, NY. Gary and Patricia moved to Watertown, NY where they raised a family.
Gary worked for Canada Dry from 1957-1961 and then started a Snack Distributor business centering around Wise potato chips in 1962 He built Reimann Wholesale into a thriving family business that employed many members of the family at one time or another. He retired in 2001 but remained involved in the business until his death.
He moved to Clayton, NY in 1978 where he lived on beautiful Washington Island until 2009.
He retired to Punta Gorda, Florida in 2009 with his fiancé Sandra DeLand and spent summers on his boat in Clayton. Gary and Sandra were able to travel to many wonderful locations over the years, and in October of 2012 fulfilled his life long dream with a safari in Africa.
Gary enjoyed spending time at the cottage at Bob's Lake in Canada but he truly loved spending time on the St Lawrence River where he enjoyed boating, fishing, and snowmobiling. He belonged to the corvette club, Punta Gorda isles car and yacht clubs. He was active in the Lions club, Elks club and Moose club.
Gary is survived by his fiancé Sandra Deland of Punta Gorda, Fl, daughter and son in law Elizabeth R. and Robert M. Weldon of Watertown, NY, daughter and son in law Linda A. and Kevin M. Chamberlain of Watertown, NY, daughter and son in law Nancy R. and Richard F. Walklett of Manlius, NY, and his 5 grandchildren, Robert, Olivia, Grant, Hannah and Abigail.
Calling hours will be held at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Clayton on Friday, January 24, from 4 - 7PM. The funeral mass will be on Saturday, January 25, at 11AM at St. Mary's Church with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery.
