Donald R. Armstrong

 Donald R. Armstrong, 75, passed away at his home in Clayton Friday, March 1, 2024 surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Hospice of Jefferson County.

   Don was born in Watertown July 12, 1948, son of Clifford and Mary (Phlippi) Armstrong and he was a graduate of Watertown High School. He entered the US Navy on August 23, 1966 and was honorably discharged from active duty on May 7, 1970. Among his duty stations was Okinawa. He remained in the Naval Reserves until August 22, 1972.

   On December 20, 1997 he married Gayla A. Switzer in LaFargeville.

   Don was a lineman for N. Y. Telephone and retired after 35 years of service to the company. He also worked for Ft. Drum in maintenance and plowing. He enjoyed fishing and boating.

   Along with his wife, Gayla, he is survived by his son Troy D. Armstrong, Black River; daughter Chelsea Martin and husband Nicholas, MA; stepson Brock S. Hutcheon, LaFargeville; four grandchildren; brother David Armstrong and wife Diane, Watertown; sister Donna Clark, Watertown; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. His parents predeceased him.

   Calling hours for Don will be held at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Clayton on Thursday, March 7, from 5 - 7 PM. There will be no funeral service.
