David Scott Gerni, 60, Watertown passed away on Monday, March 17,2025, at Crouse lrving Memorial Hospital, Syracuse surrounded by his family after a long, courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born December 4, 1964, in Syracuse to the late Louis and Diana (Ives) Gerni, Scott was raised in Henderson. He graduated from Henderson Central School. After high school, Scott became part owner of Pine Barn Restaurant in Henderson, working alongside his family. Over the past 30 years, he built a successful career as a real estate.broker with multiple successful businesses in Jefferson and Oswego counties. He recently retired as an associate broker from Hunt Real Estate's Clear Choice Team, which allowed him time with his family.
Scott was known for his love of camping in the summer with his family, and he always made others feel welcome. The fire at Gerni's was a popular gathering spot, where friends and family could enjoy pizza nights or Scott's famous fish fry, which won Jefferson County's Best Fish Fry award in the 1990's.
He was a dedicated stepfather and co-parent to his wife's three children, always treating them as his own. Giving Jonathan advice with buying a vehicle, telling Nicholas how proud he was of him at his college graduation and guiding Elizabeth for her future career goals.
Scott is survived by his wife of 15 years, Jennifer Soule Gerni; their children, Elizabeth Parrish of Watertown, Jonathan (Jewels) of Waterloo, and Nicholas (Julia) of Fulton; his brothers, Kenneth, James, and Michael (April) Gerni; his brothers-in-law, Gene (Bonnie), Jeff (Doreen), and Joseph Soule; as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nephews, and a special nephew Jeff (Stacie) Soule.
The Gerni and Parrish families would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the Upstate University Hospital Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery Team for providing quality time in the last seven months, Dr. Kumar and his staff at Hematology Oncology Associates for their care, Crouse lrving 4th floor nurses and Jefferson County Health nurse Kaitlyn.
ln accordance with Scott's wishes, there will be no calling hours. A Celebration of Life will be held for family and close friends later this summer. Arrangements are entrusted with Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown and online condolences to his family may be posted at www.cummingsfuneral.com. In lieu of flowers, Scott's family wishes donations to go for Pancreatic Research, c/o Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, P. O. Box 5028, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5028.
