Clara R. Carnegie, 83, Grindstone Island, passed away Thursday, August 15, 2013, at Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse.
Calling hours will be held at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Clayton on Wednesday, August 21, from 5 - 8PM. A graveside service will be in Grindstone Island Cemetery on Thursday, August 22, at 11AM with Rev. Arthur Couch officiating.
Clara was born in Watertown on October 24, 1929, daughter of Perl and Rhoda Jackson Matthews. She married Milton Paul Carnegie on April 15, 1950 at the parsonage of the Clayton Baptist Church and he died October 1, 1995.
She was a homemaker, an avid reader, and loved her Island. She was a member of the Grindstone Island Methodist Church.
She is survived by her four children, James M. Carnegie and wife, Laurel A., Estella A. Carnegie, Catherine A. "Chick" Ingerson and husband, Barry P., and Kim V. Carnegie-Strouse and companion, Bob Bond, all of Clayton; nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild; two brothers, Richard Matthews and wife, Christine, Clayton and Grindstone Island and Stanley Matthews, Clayton; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides her husband, Clara was predeceased by one grandson, Jon P. Carnegie, three brothers, James, Gary, and Gene Matthews, and her sister, Carol Brown.
