Christopher J. Maphey, 65, Watertown passed away Monday, June 16, 2025, at Samaritan Medical Center.
Chris was born in Syracuse May 29, 1960, son of Philip A. and Joanne (Viola) Maphey. He graduated from Watertown High School and received his bachelor degree, and then his masters degree from Oswego State.
He worked as a welder in the north country for five years. After he received his masters, Chris started his teaching career at Thousand Islands High School. He retired after 28 years of service to the district as a technology teacher.
Chris was a member of the teachers union at the school and NYS Retired Teachers Assoc. He was an avid skier - both snow and water. He enjoyed boating, traveling, reading, watching movies, and listening to music. While traveling he enjoyed visiting museums, as he was a history buff.
He is survived by his son, Michael F. Maphey, Hilton; four siblings, Philip A. (Kathy) Maphey, Jr., FL, Mary M. (Robin) Davis, Watertown, Anne E. (Jay) Fowler, FL, and John F. Maphey, Watertown; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. His parents predeceased him.
A celebration of Chris' life will be held on Sunday, June 29, beginning at Noon at The Clipper Inn, Clayton. Burial in Riverside Cemetery, Wellesley Island will be at his family's convenience. Arrangements are entrusted with Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Clayton and online condolences to Chris' family may be posted at www.cummingsfuneral.com. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Thousand Islands Museum, 312 James St., Clayton, NY 13624.
