Carol E. Barnes, 76, Clayton passed away Saturday afternoon, August 31, 2024, at Samaritan Medical Center.
Carol was born in Watertown July 7, 1948, daughter of Walter C. and T. Doris (Marshall) Kendall. She was a 1966 graduate of Clayton central School and 1967 graduate of Harper Method Beauty School, Rochester. She married William R. Barnes, Jr. September 14, 1968 at St. Mary's Church with Fr. Leo Wiley officiating. Mr. Barnes died November 13, 2004.
Carol owned a beauty shop in Watertown. She then became a waitress. She worked 10 years at the TI Country Club, worked for Driftwood, McCormick's, TI Inn, and O'Brien's, and retired after 20 years working at The Clipper Inn.
She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church. Carol served 14 years on the Board of Directors for the TI Youth Hockey Assoc. and was inducted into the Hall of Fame. She enjoyed reading, needlepoint, and being "Nana" to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Carol is survived by her 3 children, Tonya M. Barnes, Clayton, William R. (Deborah L.) Barnes III, Three Mile Bay, and Kristina E. (Michael L.) Eckert, LaFargeville; 7 grandchildren, Kyleigh and Kortney Gloska, Michaela (Justin) Burns, Tyler and Christopher (Amber) Eckert, and Trenton and Kamryn Barnes; 3 great grandchildren with 1 on the way; brother Donald W. (Patricia) Kendall, Clayton; sister-in-law Judy Kendall, Rochester, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Along with her parents and husband, she was predeceased by daughter Tina K. Barnes, August 6, 1973; brother James H. Kendall, 2023; and sister Marilyn A. Rogers, 2005.
Calling hours will be held at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Clayton on Wednesday, September 4, from 4:00 - 7:00 PM. Her funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church at 10:00 AM Thursday, September 5, followed by burial in Riverside Cemetery, Wellesley Island.
