Betty J. Willoughby, 81, Clayton passed away Tuesday morning, November 19, 2024, at North Country Nursing and Rehab Center, Massena where she had resided for almost a year.
Betty was born in Clayton April 6, 1943, daughter of Charles H. and Alfreda F. (Lumley) Bazinet. She was a graduate and alumni chairwoman of Clayton High School and completed schooling in transcription. A marriage to Ronald Willoughby ended in divorce.
She was a medical transcriber in Syracuse and Alexandria Bay, retiring from E. J. Noble Hospital, after over three decades of service. Betty was a member of American Legion Colon Couch Post 821 Ladies Auxiliary. Sh served as treasurer for the North Jefferson Community Theatre and worked in registration, box office, and costumes for Young People's Theater, Clayton. She enjoyed knitting, jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, and going to the theatre. She poured love into her many pet cats, as well as her beloved Shmorkie Poo, Missy.
Betty is survived by her son Jeffrey C. Willoughby and his girlfriend Tami Fielding, Ogdensburg; six grandchildren, Timothy Lawrence, Katrina Gionet, Jason and Richard Kilmer, and Josie and Joe "Dude" O'Brien; five great grandchildren; brother Edward L. Bazinet, Sackets Harbor; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Along with her parents, Betty was predeceased by her longtime companion, Frank G. Kirkland, October 17, 2023; daughter Judith O'Brien, February 27, 2011; and sister Carol Ann Daly, May 23, 1983.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, November 21, at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Clayton from 5 - 7 PM. Her graveside service will be on Friday, November 22, at 11 AM in St. Mary's Cemetery.
