Bertha M. Snell

Bertha M. Snell, 96, died August 22, 2012 at the Samaritan Keep Nursing Home where she had resided since April 15, 2011. Graveside committal services will be held at Brookside Cemetery on Tuesday Aug. 28, 2012 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Steven Murray officiating. Arrangements are with Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown. Donations may be made in her name to the Alzheimer's Association of Central New York, 441 West Kirkpatrick St., Syracuse, New York 13204.

Bertha was born in Leonia, New Jersey on July 13, 1916 the daughter of Joseph and Mary M. Seiler Von Schlemmer. The family moved to Ogdensburg then to Watertown, where she graduated from high school and attended the Watertown School of Business. She married Justin F. "Judd" Snell on June 25, 1938 in Elktin, MD. After their marriage they moved to Ohio and returned to Watertown in 1945. Mr.Snell died on March 19, 2011.

She had been a secretary for several area businesses including Dr. Hawkins in the Woolworth Building and for the Agricultural Ins. Co. of Watertown. Bertha was an accomplished seamstress and was very active with the Morning Musicales. She is survived by several Nieces, Nephews , as well as her Sister in Laws, Wilma B. Schlemmer and Irene S. Pipe. She is predeceased by a Brother, Harold Schlemmer; and 2 Sisters, Helen Jeram and Louise Schlemmer and a niece and a nephew.
