Barbara Garnsey Obituary

   Barbara A. Garnsey, 88, formerly of Clayton passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at Samaritan Keep Home.

   Barbara was born in Ludlow, MA May 16, 1937, daughter of Cleophus H. and Ruth M. (O'Neill) Yandow. The family moved to Clayton in 1951 and she was educated in Clayton schools.

   On September 24, 1955 she married Clyde E. Garnsey at Clayton Methodist Church with Rev. Soloman A. Card officiating. Clyde died February 12, 2009.

   In 1965 the family moved to Grindstone Island, where Clyde was a farmer, and moved back to Clayton in 1974, Barbara worked in various places in Clayton: was a waitress and cook at The Golden Anchor, T. I. Inn, and Koffee Kove and was a cashier at B & D, Big M, and Kinney Drugs.

   Barbara was a former member of Clayton United Methodist Church. She enjoyed selling Avon, reading, and was an avid Yankees fan, especially liking Derek Jeter. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

   She is survived by her six children, Laurel A. (James) Carnegie, Clayton, Karen S. (Stub) Lashomb, Clayton, Clyde H. "Chip" Garnsey, Clayton, Amy L. (Stephen) Black, Clayton, Suellen Garnsey and companion Don Albring, Rossie, and Kevin M. (Yvette) Garnsey, Clayton; 2 daughters-in-law, Lisa Bazinet and Linda Jahrling, both of Clayton; 18 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren; brother-in-law Fred Jackson, Clayton; sister-in-law Leotta Wood, Cape Vincent; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Along with her parents and husband, Barbara was predeceased by son Kenneth F. Garnsey, May 15, 1976; brother James E. Yandow; and three sisters, Joyce C. Cornaire, Elizabeth L. Grandee, and Carol M. Jackson.

   The family will hold a celebration of Barbara's life on Sunday, June 8, at the C-Way Restaurant, Clayton from 1:00 - 4:00 PM. Arrangements are entrusted with Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Clayton and online condolences to her family may be posted at www.cummingsfuneral.com. In lieu of flowers donations in Barbara's name may be made to Samaritan Keep Home Patients Activity Fund, 133 Pratt St., Watertown, NY 13601.
