Audrey Lashomb Obituary

With heavy hearts and profound love, we announce the peaceful passing of Audrey Marguerite (Turcotte) Lashomb on February 18, 2025.  Audrey was born on November 19, 1929 in Gananoque, Ontario, Canada, daughter of Edwin and Ellen (Slate) Turcotte. Audrey passed without fear, comforted by the knowledge that she would be reunited with her beloved husband of almost 76 years, Robert V. Sr., died January 6, 2024 and their cherished daughter, Trudy Marguerite.

Born and raised on the serene shores of Grindstone Island, Audrey’s life was deeply rooted in family, community, and a profound connection to her heritage. She attended Grindstone Island school and graduated from Clayton High School.  On April 24th, 1949, she married Robert V. Lashomb Sr. at the Grindstone Island Methodist Church, beginning a journey we together that would span nearly eight decades. She was a member of the Grindstone Island Methodist Church where she served on the board, Dodge Hall, the Rebekah Lodge and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Together, Audrey and Robert built both a family and a legacy, owning and operating Remar Rentals and Remar Shipyard. Previously, she has worked at Skinner Spoons and Head Start at Christ Episcopal Church.  Their family-run business thrived for many decades, reflecting their shared dedication, integrity, and hard work.

Audrey was a woman of many talents and passions. Her love for her community inspired her to author Going Home: Grindstone Island, a heartfelt tribute to her island roots. A gifted poet, she wrote countless poems for her family, offering words of love, comfort, and celebration throughout the years. Her creativity and warmth touched everyone who knew her.

Travel was a joy she shared with Bob. Together, they ventured across the globe, fulfilling lifelong dreams with journeys to Israel and Egypt, numerous European countries, the Caribbean, extensive travels across the United States in their motorhome, and many journeys by boat up and down the inland waterway to Florida. Each trip was a new adventure, filled with wonder, laughter, and memories that are shared across generations.

Audrey’s greatest pride was her family. She leaves behind her loving children: Robert V. Jr.  and Jackie Lashomb of Clayton, Mark D. and Charlotte Lashomb of Clayton, and Rebecca A. and John Connolly of Watertown. Her legacy continues through her six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored. Though she grieved the loss of her daughter Trudy, Audrey found solace in knowing they would one day be together again.

Audrey leaves behind three brother-in-laws: Clarence (Stub) and Karen Lashomb, Charles (Skip) and Nancy Matthews, and George and Wendy Matthews, all of Grindstone Island and Clayton. She is predeceased by her daughter, Trudy Marguerite, 1963 and her sister Ada Bazinet.

Audrey faced the end of her life with the same grace and peace that defined her living years. Her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering love will remain in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.

A celebration of Audrey’s life will be held at a later date at her Grindstone Island home, where family and friends will gather at the river to honor her remarkable journey and the love she so generously gave. Arrangements are entrusted with Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Clayton and online condolences to Audrey's family may be posted at www.cummingsfuneral.com. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Grindstone Island Methodist Church renovation fund or Dodge Hall.

Rest peacefully, Audrey. You are home.
