Arthur H. Zaremba, Sr. (“Art”), age 93, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2026, at Samaritan Summit Village in Watertown, New York.
Art was born on August 10, 1932, in Watertown, New York, a son of the late Stanley and Pauline Zaremba. Art attended Augustinian Academy in Carthage, NY and then graduated from Immaculate Heart Academy in Watertown, NY in 1951. His high school yearbook described him as having a “scrappy determination to win in any game,” a fitting description of how he approached many aspects of his life.
He served his country in the United States Army, the National Guard and the Reserves from 1952 through 1961. During this time, he was stationed overseas in Korea and then subsequently as a heavy vehicle repairman at Fort Drum, New York.
Following his military service and work at Fort Drum, Art dedicated many years of his life to his family through his hard work, dedication, commitment and entrepreneurial spirit in the following positions: co-owner and operator of Dante’s Restaurant and Giovanni’s Restaurant; and eventually retiring from Samaritan Medical Center as their Maintenance Supervisor.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Agnes J. Zaremba (“Aggie”), who recently died on November 5, 2025, following their 70 years of marriage. Art was also preceded in death by his 3 brothers: Stanley. Jr.; Jack and Joseph Zaremba, as well as his 3 sisters: Marie Cecile; Catherine Keller and Betty West.
Art is survived by his three children: Arthur (Patricia) Zaremba, Jr.; Deborah (Eldon) Perry, both of Watertown, New York and Stephen J. Zaremba of Syracuse, New York. He will also be sadly missed by his 12 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
Art touched the lives of so many family and friends through his generous spirit. He proudly remodeled or constructed not only several homes for his own family, but will also be remembered by his warmth, compassion and generous spirit through his assistance to so many extended family members and friends who were fortunate to experience Art’s creative abilities in their home improvement projects.
Behind the scenes, Art had a constant source of strength in his life: his wife, Aggie. Whatever project he undertook; whatever challenges life dealt; and whatever joys life brought to him, Aggie was always right there, by his side providing strength and sharing life together. Without doubt, she has spent the last few months preparing for and eagerly waiting for him to rejoin her in Heaven so they can once again be together to watch over and guide their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought them so much joy on Earth.
Family and friends will gather to remember and celebrate Art’s life on Thursday, April 23rd, when a funeral mass will be held at 11:00 am at St. Anthony’s Church, 850 Arsenal Street, Watertown, New York 13601. A calling hour will also be held at St. Anthony’s Church from 9:30am to 10:30am immediately preceding the funeral mass. Contributions may be made directly to St. Anthony’s Church in Art’s memory. Online condolences to his family may be posted at www.cummingsfuneral.com.
Art’s children would also like to extend their appreciation to the amazing 3 rd floor staff of certified nursing assistants at Samaritan Summit Village who took such great care of him in his final days. Although his stay there was brief, he quickly made friends with some very special care givers with his scrappy, witty (and, at times, sarcastic) demeanor.
