Anne Marie (Burgess) Nicol

   Anne Marie Nicol, 95, passed away at her home in Watertown Tuesday morning, March 17, 2026.
   Anne Marie was born in Watertown on January 24, 1931, daughter of Edward H. and Leonora C. (Mallette) Burgess. She was a graduate of Watertown High School and received her associates degree from Canton ATC.  On October 6, 1951 she married William F. Nicol, Jr. at Holy Family church with her uncle, Rev. Lawrence Mallette, officiating. Bill passed on June 16, 2008.
   Her love for her children was enduring and became her life’s work. Anne Marie lovingly cared for her daughter, Laura, as she battled leukemia and passed away in June, 1963.
   Her children will carry on the many traditions she lovingly shared with them. From making pies and Christmas cookies to picking berries and spending time at the cottage,  they will do their best to honor her wish to love and care for each other always.
   Mrs. Nicol was a faithful communicant of Holy Family Church. She enjoyed gardening, making pottery, basket weaving, and flower arranging. She always shared these talents with those she loved, such as her dear life-long friends Shirley, Janet, Judy, Doris, and Mary. After her husband's death, she enjoyed falls and winters in Virginia. Coco and Finnegan will especially miss their Nana and the many treats she shared with them.
   Anne Marie's family would like to send a special thank you to all her caregivers who allowed her to stay in her own home.
   She is survived by her five children, Katherine R. Nicol, Richmond, VA, William E. (Kathie) Nicol, Evans Mills, Edgar A. (Yana) Nicol, Chesterfield, VA, David L. (Casey) Nicol, Adams, and Janet A. (Charles Alan) Givens, Richmond, VA; eleven grandchildren and one great grandson; and many canine and feline grandbabies.
   Calling hours will be held at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown on Friday, March 20th from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm followed by a funeral service at the funeral home at 6:30 pm. Burial in Glenwood Cemetery will be in the spring at her family's convenience. There will be a celebration of her life this summer.
