Andrew Earl Campbell, Dad, Gramps, Grandpa, Pops, Pumpa, Old Poppa and Old Grandpa passed away peacefully on June 6, 2025 in his home surrounded by those who loved him. He was 87 years old.
Andrew, the only child of Earl and Thelma Campbell, both of whom preceded him in death, was born on April 25, 1938 in Watertown, NY. He married his beloved wife Carol Lee Ottenburg on July 10, 1971. Together they came to have 7 children- naming them "his, hers, and ours", as each had children from previous marriages. Lisa, Greg (Kelly), Debbie (Bobby), Jon, Stacy, Andrea (Spencer), and Stephanie (Kevin).
Andrew and Carol have 18 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. Andrew is survived by his wife, all of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Andrew graduated from Watertown High School in 1956 and went in the Navy Reserve for 8 years shortly after graduation. He then worked at the St. Regis paper mill, from where he would retire. After his retirement he worked as a maintenance man for the Quality Inn hotel in Watertown and delivered flowers for Grays flower shop for several years. He also enjoyed driving his friends to doctor appointments or wherever they needed to go.
In his spare time he appreciated the simple things. He loved seeing his family, walking his dog Mabal who was surely awaiting his arrival at the rainbow bridge, being well fed by mom (the kitchen never closed), playing Chinese checkers and card games, taking naps, accepting goulash in any quantity from anyone, mowing his lawn, painting his fence (every year), crafting wooden letters for names and giving them to anyone - even the mailman's dog. He loved watching his westerns and he especially loved John Wayne. If you were lucky enough, he'd show you his "Wayne room." This was his room filled with John Wayne memorabilia from John Wayne toilet paper to a life size cut out of the actor. If it had John Wayne's name or face on it, he had it. His collection was his pride and joy and his room, his favorite in the house. He also loved doing puzzles, preserving them with mod podge and adding a frame. He made sure we all had one before he passed. He also loved Walter and his puppeteer, Jeff Dunham.
His absence will be deeply felt by his family and friends. His memory will be cherished forever. He would never say good-bye, but "I'll get back to ya" and whenever he was ready to leave anywhere, his famous saying was, "Double-parked. Gotta go."
Thank you to his loving caregiver, Ashley, who became family throughout her time with him and thank you for the support of Hospice in his final weeks with us.
At his request, burial in Brookside Cemetery will be at his family's convenience. Arrangements are entrusted with Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown and online condolences to his family may be posted at www.cummingsfuneral.com.
