Nancy K. Breslin

Nancy K. Breslin, 99, resident of Watertown and Wellesley Island passed away peacefully at her home in Watertown Wednesday evening, April 24, 2019.

A private service will be held at the convenience of her family. Arrangements are entrusted with Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown.

Nancy was born in Syracuse on April 8, 1920, daughter of Robert L. and Ilda Dietrich Kincaid. She was a graduate of Abbott Academy, Andover, MA and received her Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts from Syracuse University. A marriage to Addison F. Vars, Jr. ended in divorce. Nancy later married Louis R. Breslin. Mr. Breslin, a partner at Cravath, Swaine & Moore, LLP in NYC, died in 1992.

After college, Nancy worked for the OSS during World War II. She was also a music teacher, teaching mainly piano and a columnist for the Syracuse Post Standard. Moving to New York City, she served as the National Arts Consultant for Junior Leagues of America for over 30 years. Nancy was a member of the Eighth Church of Christ, Scientist in New York City. She was a founding board Member of the Thousand Islands Performing Arts Fund, served as a Trustee of the Thousand Islands Land Trust, and as a Trustee of the Edward John Noble Foundation. She enjoyed traveling and was an accomplished pianist and harpsichordist. As a life-long summer resident of the 1000 Islands, Nancy was a summer resident of Oak Lodge on Wellesley Island since she was four years old. Her greatest loves were the River and especially her family and the loving closeness she felt for them.

Nancy is survived by her son, Addison F. Vars, III and wife, Barbara; stepdaughter, Elizabeth Wright and husband, Joseph; granddaughter, Lesley F. Vars; two stepgrandchildren, Amanda Wright and Sam Wright and wife, Sara; stepgreat-grandson, Rowan Wright; and her close friend and primary caregiver, Lynn Chalk. She was predeceased by her brother, James F. Kincaid, August 29, 2007.
