Edwin S. Ladley, Jr.

Edwin S. Ladley, Jr., 89, of Clayton passed away Thursday afternoon, November 15, 2018, at Hospice of Jefferson County, Watertown.

A celebration of his life will be held at his family's convenience. Arrangements are entrusted with Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Clayton.

Edwin was born in Kennett Square, PA on November 14, 1929, son of Edwin S. and Florence Mae Edge Ladley. He was a graduate of The Hill School, Pottstown, PA and the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. He was married to Edwina Munson from 1953 to 1969. He then married Eudora "Tinker" Lambert in 1969. He served in the US Marines as an air traffic controller during the Korean Conflict stationed in St. Croix, Virgin Islands, and enjoyed the kinship of his fellow Marines and membership at the Clayton American Legion Colon-Couch Post 821.

Ed worked in advertising at DuPont, Wilmington, DE, then in real estate in both PA and DE. He was the owner and operator of Fisherman's Pier Marina in Clayton and managed several other marinas in PA, MD, and NJ subsequently.

Ed was a writer and a storyteller. He wrote short stories and had a column in the Thousand Islands Sun called "The Way We Were." He also wrote lyrics for musical productions at the University of VA and at DuPont. He dearly loved the St. Lawrence River, boating and fishing and he previously summered on Round Island. He was an animal lover, especially the many dogs the family had over the years.

Ed is survived by his wife Tinker Ladley, a resident of Samaritan Keep Home, Watertown; three daughters, Sandra Edge Ladley, Albany, CA and Clayton, NY, Cynthia Franchot Ladley Larkins and her husband, Patrick C. Larkins, Sr., Cape Vincent, and Jennifer Ladley Costantino and her husband, Charles A. Costantino, Clayton; seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and his dog Lucky. He was predeceased by his adopted son, Edwin S."Rick" Ladley III, November 28, 1989.
