Carole A. Gray

October 23, 2018

Carole A. GrayCarole A. Gray, 73, of Clayton passed away peacefully at Samaritan Medical Center with her family at her side on Saturday, October 20, 2018. She had resided at Samaritan Summit Village for the last year and a half.

A calling hour will be at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Clayton on Saturday, October 27, from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM followed by a funeral service at 1 PM with Rev. Paul Gmitter presiding. Burial in St. Lawrence Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family.

Carole was born in Watertown on April 20, 1945, daughter of the late Earl K. and Mary Dodge Ingerson and she attended school in LaFargeville. A marriage to Donald Gray, Jr. ended in divorce.

She waitressed, cooked, and helped manage restaurants, including McCormick's and Pier House, both in Clayton and Sunnybanks and Aubrey's Inn, both in Cape Vincent. Carole served on the board and enjoyed volunteering her time helping the residents at the Paynter Senior Center in Clayton. She also enjoyed dancing, bowling, collecting lighthouses, and spending her summers on Grindstone Island at the family cottage. Her biggest love was her family. She was a loving grandmother and great grandmother: there was never a family member that was in need for long, because Carole heard about it and helped them. Her children were honored to have her as their mom: as a strong and caring mother, she faced obstacles with dignity, grace, and above all, love.

She is survived by her three children, Tonia L. Stephenson and husband, Robert L. II, Brownville, Trina L. Sochia, Redwood, and Tavis L. Gray and wife, Brenda, Buffalo; fourteen grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; brother Robert Ingerson and wife, Sandy, Alexandria Bay; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members. She was predeceased by her daughter, Tamby L. Lindsay, October 1992, granddaughter, Ashley Grant, June 10, 2015, two brothers, William and Larry Ingerson, and two sisters, Gloria Call and Judy Gonio.

The family would like to thank the staff at Samaritan Summit Village and Samaritan Medical Center for their care and devotion to Carole. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Samaritan Summit Village Activities Fund, 22691 Campus Dr., Watertown, NY 13601. Online condolences to her family may be posted at www.cummingsfuneral.com.
