Sr. Marie Angele Ellis

Sister Marie Angele Ellis died April 17, 2018 at the Sisters of St. Joseph Motherhouse at the age of 90.

She was born Marie Therese Ellis in Watertown, NY on March 22, 1928, daughter of Angele Hoheiche Ellis and Toufee T. Ellis.

A graduate of Augustinian Academy, Carthage, she graduated from Central City Business Institute, Syracuse as a medical secretary.

She worked for the Syracuse City Clinic as a medical secretary for ten years. Sister Marie Angele entered the Sisters of St. Joseph on September 8, 1956. She received the habit on April 28, 1957 and made Final Profession on June 24, 1962. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from the New York State University of Potsdam. She taught in AuSable Forks, NY and St. Patrick’s School, Watertown, NY. For 37 years, Sister Marie Angele served as secretary and treasurer of the Community. Within this period, she served as Assistant Superior to the Major Superior. Sister Marie Angele also served as a member of the Finance Council for the Diocese of Ogdensburg. In 1997, Sister Marie Angele served as a parish minister at St. James Parish, Carthage. She returned to a prayer apostolate at the Motherhouse in 2013.

Sister Marie Angele is survived by her brothers, Raffe G., Orlando, Florida, Rev. Alfred J. OSA, Villanova, PA, Rev. Kail C., OSA, Villanova, PA, and a sister Alfreda M., Altamonte Springs, FL. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she is predeceased by one brother, Delor J., Mashpee, MA.

Funeral arrangements are with Cummings Funeral Service, Inc. Waking hours will be at the Sisters of St. Joseph Motherhouse Chapel on Sunday, April 22 in the afternoon and evening. The Wake Prayer Service will be at 7:00 pm. The funeral liturgy will be held at the Motherhouse Chapel on Monday, April 23 at the 11:00 am. Rev. Kail C. Ellis, OSA will be the celebrant and the homilist.

We will always remember Sister Angele to be an exceptionally kind, caring and nurturing person while serving St. James Church in Carthage, New York. She always did her best to visit and show support for our patients at the Hospital. She truly represented the values of our Lord. She was an example for all of us!! Rest in peace, dear Sister.
