On July 31, 1958 he married Kay Lucile Putman at St. Lawrence Methodist Church, town of Cape Vincent.

Carl was employed by Knowlton Brothers Specialty Paper, Watertown as a paper maker for 43 years. Carl is survived by his wife, Kay; four children, Cheryl Bartlett and husband, Randy, Watertown, Linda Becker, Clayton, Mary Foster Schawlm and husband, Peter, New Hope, PA, and Todd Foster and wife, Jill, Clayton; five grandchildren, Sarah K.
