Marcus W. Plumpton

Marcus W. Plumpton, 96, of Watertown passed away Sunday, March 12, 2017, at Samaritan Keep Home. There will be no services, as per his wishes, and arrangements are entrusted with Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown

He was born in Clayton on August 21, 1920, son of Charles A. and Anna E. Austin Plumpton. He was a graduate of Immaculate Heart Academy and Manlius Military School. A marriage to Mary Frances McGarry ended in divorce.

On September 4, 1942 he entered the US Army. He served in Luzon, New Guinea, and Southern Philippines. Marcus received the World War II Victory, American Service, Asiatic-Pacific Service and Good Conduct Medals and the Philippines Liberation Ribbon. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal on January 27, 1946.

After his service to his country, he and his siblings continued the business at Plumpton Chevrolet, and he retired as part owner. He also worked as a security guard for Burns Security. He was a member of the Black River Valley Club and enjoyed reading and playing cards.

Marcus is survived by his son, Marcus W. "Mickey" Plumpton and companion, Kathy Shelmidine, and daughter, Marcia A. DeJourdan, all of Watertown; three grandchildren, Brian and Scott Files and Molly DeJourdan, two great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. His grandson, Michael DeJourdan, great grandson, Kentin Davis, two brothers, Kenyon A. and Wesley Plumpton, and his sister, Elsie Poppleton, died before him.

Marcia and Micky. I so sorry to hear of your fathers death. Even though we know it will happen, it still leaves a hole in our lives.
