Edna E. Sullivan, 79, Ives Hill Retirement Community and formerly of E. Hounsfield, passed away Sunday, January 8, 2017, at Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse.
Calling hours will be held at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown on Wednesday, January 11, from 4 - 7PM. A funeral service will be at the funeral home on Thursday, January 12, at 11AM with Rev. Steven Murray, pastor of Holy Family Church, presiding. Burial will be in the spring in Indian River Cemetery, Indian River, NY.
Edna was born in the town of Croghan on April 10, 1937, daughter of Clifford and Averill (Adner) Shaw and she graduated from Harrisville High School. On August 31, 1956 she married Donald C. Sullivan in Watertown and Mr. Sullivan died April 23, 2014.
She had worked as an office clerk for Sears, then was a saleswoman for many years at S. L. George Jewelers, both in Watertown. She also was tax collector for the Town of Hounsfield. Edna enjoyed volunteering at E. Hounsfield Free Library, golfing, gardening, bird watching, and crossword puzzles. She was a Syracuse University basketball fan and a life member of the Sackets Harbor American Legion Post 1757 Auxiliary. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, Bedford Creek Golf Course, and Town of Hounsfield Seniors.
Edna is survived by her two sons and their wives, Stephen S. and Kezia, Sackets Harbor and James C. and Margaret, Baldwinsville; son-in-law, George Day III, FL; seven grandchildren, Thomas Sullivan and fiancée, Kristin Fiorini, Washington, DC, Megan and James Scott and Amanda and Luke Beasley, all of Webster, Justin and Katie Day, Carthage, Patrick Sullivan, Clifton Park, Briana Sullivan, Baldwinsville, and Melissa and Junior Gonzalez, MA; four great grandchildren; brother, Ernest J. Shaw, Natural Bridge, and sister, Ruth Conklin; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her daughter, Susan Day, died March 20, 2010 and she was also predeceased by brother, Charles Shaw, and sister, Linda Martin.
