Betty Jean Buker

January 4, 2017

Betty Jean BukerBetty Jean Buker, 81, of Clayton, NY and San Antonio, FL, passed away on Wednesday, January 4th with her family by her side.

Born November 19th, 1935 in Cincinnatus, NY, she was the daughter of James A. Daily and Miriam Daily. Betty grew up in Syracuse, NY and graduated from North High School. She worked for Loblaws Super Markets in Syracuse where she met her future husband, Rex A. Buker. Rex always liked to tell the story of how Betty would be waiting for the bus to take her to work, and he stopped and asked her if she would like a ride to work. Even though they worked in the same place, she didn'

t know him well enough to accept a ride. Eventually she gave in and rode to work with Rex; they were married shortly thereafter and their story continued for 61 years.

Betty and Rex moved to Clayton, NY in 1966 where Rex opened the Clayton Big M Supermarket. Betty helped out in the store when she could while still raising four children. As her children became adults, the family business grew to multiple businesses, and she would jump in and help wherever she was needed, including making potato salad in the restaurant, slicing meat in the deli, or serving ice cream for many summers.

Betty loved Clayton and San Antonio and the wonderful friends she had in both communities, but most of all she loved her family. Her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren were the joy of her life. She was their "Gramma Great" in every sense of the name.

Betty donated her time to many charitable organizations over the years. She also loved going to church and spending time with her many friends.

Betty fought a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She had wonderful care the last few months from her loving husband and daughter, Debbie.

Betty is survived by husband Rex, her children Michael (Patty), Debbie, John (Pam); her grandchildren, Cara, Curtis, Laura, Kylie, Tim, Jenna, Lenny, Ariel and Aliceson; her great grandchildren, Winter, Bryanna, Jax, Rocco and Jase. She is survived by her brother Donald Daily, Syracuse, NY, sister Sally Case, Cuyahoga Falls, OH, brother-in-law, Edward Bargelski, Syracuse, NY, sisters-in-law Jane Daily, Alexandria Bay, NY, Pauline Daily, Syracuse, NY and Marilyn Daily, Champlain, NY, and several nieces and nephews. Betty was pre-deceased by her son Albert M. Buker, her brothers William, James and John Daily, and sisters Barbara Smith and Jeanette Bargelski.

There will be a service on Friday, January 13, at 11AM at the Community United Methodist Church, 32606 Michigan Avenue, San Antonio, FL. There will be a service in Clayton, NY in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a local Food Bank. The family would like to thank Gulfside Hospice for the wonderful and tender care given during the last few days of Betty's life.

Arrangements are with Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Clayton, NY. Online condolences to her family may be made at www.cummingsfuneral.com.
