Richard E. Murphy, 88, Cadwell St., Watertown passed away June 11, 2016 at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester.

As per his wishes there will be no callings hours or service and arrangements are entrusted with Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown.

Mr. Murphy was born in Watertown on October 15, 1927, son of Patrick O. and Marion Pledger Murphy and he graduated from Immaculate Heart Academy. He was married twice, to Mary Jane Shaughnessy who died in 1978 and to Claire Augustus who died in 2013.

For 35 years he served the City of Watertown at the Watertown Fire Dept. and retired as Battalion Chief. He had played for the Watertown Red & Black and enjoyed woodworking.

Richard is survived by his son and his fiancé, Michael L. Murphy and Betty Jean Gould, Watertown three grandchildren, Allison Murphy Morley, Kelly Murphy Matyjakowski, and Ryan Murphy; two great grandchildren, Nick and Ashley Matyjakowski; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides his two wives, he was predeceased by five children, Patrick, Anthony, Eleanor, Francis (in infancy), and James Murphy and his brother, Joseph W. Murphy who died in 2012.

Cousin Mike and family, i am sad to hear of Dick's passing. I loved the way Dick and Joe told stories and Jokes. Great memories with our times together. Now all the Murphy's are together again. I bet it is one heck of a party! My thoughts and prayers are with you! Megan Corbett Ladouceur
